Established in 1950 by the late Harry Hirshman, Drakes has rapidly risen to become one of Plymouth's leading independent jewellers. Offering high quality service, and products at a realistic price, very quickly endeared the company to the community, and resulted in an ongoing success continued today. Indeed, many of today's customers are descendants of its early clients.

Harry's son John came into the business in 1954, taking over the reigns and becoming Managing Director in 1975 upon Harry’s retirement. John’s children have both joined the company, daughter Monique in 1984 and son Andrew in 1992 and now that John has started to “ease back” a little, they are very much the driving force taking the business forward.

Following various moves around the city of Plymouth during its post war reconstruction, Drakes are now based at the Drake Circus shopping centre and the fabulous showroom is ideally situated between several car parks making access quick and convenient for the most time conscious shopper.
