About us

Established in 1950 by the late Harry Hirshman, Drakes Fine Jewellers has rapidly risen to become one of Plymouth's leading independent jewellers. Offering high quality service, and products at a realistic price, very quickly endeared the company to the community, and resulted in an ongoing success continued today. Indeed, many of today's customers are descendants of its early clients.

Harry’s son John came into the business in 1954, taking over the reigns and becoming Managing Director in 1975 upon Harry’s retirement. John’s children have both joined the company, daughter Monique in 1984 and son Andrew in 1992 and now that hat John has started to “ease back” a little, they are very much the driving force taking the business forward.

Following various moves around the city of Plymouth during its post war reconstruction, Drakes Fine Jewellers are now based at the Drake Circus shopping mall and the fabulous showroom is ideally situated between several car parks making access quick and convenient for the most time conscious shopper. To ensure our customers have complete peace of mind when purchasing diamonds, we have created our Diamond Promise.

With the third generation of the family now at the helm Drakes Fine Jewellers prides itself on the high standard of service offered and actively promotes training in order to achieve this.

Several of our team have been granted the "Retail Jewellers Diploma" from the National Association of Goldsmiths, and Andrew has qualified for the prestigious

Diamond Grading Certificate from the H.R.D. Council of Antwerp.

The business has a very strong client base in Plymouth and the West Country in general, and this together with "Hands on" Directors and loyal, long-standing dedicated staff, has enabled us to maintain a very high standard of service and personal contact with all of our customers.
